Natural Stone: Timeless Character for Your Home's Exterior

Nothing matches the nobility of natural stone. Whether it's an old cottage with freshly repointed rubble stone walls, or a modern home clad in dry stone veneer, the wow factor is guaranteed.

Stone roots a house in its landscape and history. Today's trend is to pair stone with very contemporary elements (aluminium bi-folds, flat-roof extensions) to create a conversation between old and new. You no longer need to cover the whole house: a single stone wall (a gable end or entrance) is enough to add real character without stretching the budget.

The Art of Pointing

When repointing a stone wall, remember that the mortar colour does 50% of the visual work. Dark mortar (grey cement) 'deadens' the stone and ages poorly. A light mortar (sandy, lime-white) brightens the facade and lets each stone read clearly. Always use a natural hydraulic lime (NHL) mortar to let the wall breathe.

For a natural result when using veneer panels, choose irregular-sized stones and avoid overly regular, grid-like courses.
