How to use the simulator

The whole simulator in 11 steps, with screenshots. This guide opens on top of your page: close it whenever you like, your photo and your results are still there.

The essentials in 30 seconds

  • One simulation = 1 credit = 1 HD render of your photo.
  • One part per render: the walls, then the trim, then the door… You chain them on the same result (step 7).
  • With an account, each render comes with 3 free fixes using the magic wand and your own instructions (step 6). A visitor without an account does not get the wand.
  • If the part you asked for is not in the photo, a message tells you and the credit is given back.

Add your photo

Click “Click or drag your photos”, or drop your photo into the frame. On a phone, you can also take the photo directly. No photo at hand? Click “No photo? Try this one”, just below the frame.

  • Shoot the house from the front, in daylight, not against the sun.
  • Get the whole house in the frame, with no car or tree in front if possible.
  • Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC (iPhone), up to 20 MB.

Choose what you want to paint

Under “What do you want to paint?”, click one part only: Walls, Trim, Front door, Garage door, Shutters or Deck. The rest of the house stays exactly as it is.

  • “Walls” paints the siding, stucco, brick or stone.
  • “Trim” paints the window and door frames, the fascia and the corner boards.
  • To paint two parts, do them one after the other (step 7).

Choose the color

First pick the paint brand in the tabs (for example Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore or Behr), then click a shade. You can search by name or code, or filter by family (Whites, Grays, Greens…). The shade you picked shows under the grid, in “Selected color”.

  • Some premium shades are reserved for accounts that have credits.
  • The button at the bottom repeats your choice: “Generate in” followed by the shade name.

Run the render

Click the “Generate in …” button (or “Paint the trim in …” if you picked another part than the walls). The render takes about 15 seconds: stay on the page.

  • This render uses 1 credit.
  • If the part is not visible in the photo, a message tells you and the credit is given back.

Read the result

The result shows in two columns: BEFORE (your photo) and AFTER (the simulation). Click an image to see it full screen. Under the image, the color applied is shown with its code.

Fix a result with your instructions (magic wand)

Under the result, the “Instructions for the next generation” box lets you say, in your own words, what you want to change. Type your instruction, then click “Generate”: a new version is created. It is free, 3 times per render, with an account.

Each version is added under the result: click a thumbnail to see it again.

Examples to copy and adapt:

  • Keep the gutters and downspouts white.
  • Do not paint the stone base.
  • First-floor window trim in Retreat, second-floor trim in Shoji White.
  • Soffit and fascia in the same color as the walls.
  • Front door in natural wood: do not paint it.
  • A short, precise instruction works better than a long text.
  • Name the part and the place: “second-floor windows”, “garage side”, “glass door on the right”.
  • Results can vary from one try to the next: rephrase if needed.

Paint another part on your result

You painted the walls and now want the shutters or the front door? Start again from your latest result:

  1. Click “Reuse a photo you already sent”, under the photo area.
  2. In the window, choose “Latest result” (Continue on it): your already painted house loads.
  3. Under “What do you want to paint?”, choose the next part, for example “Shutters”.
  4. Pick its color, then click “Paint the shutters in …”. This render uses 1 credit.
  5. Repeat for each part: you end up with a house with all your colors.

Start over from the original photo

To try a completely different combination, click “Reuse a photo you already sent”, then “Original photo” (Start over): your starting photo loads again, with no color on it.

Download in HD

On the AFTER image, the download button (down arrow) saves the simulation in high definition. On a computer, it appears when your mouse is over the image; on a phone, it is always visible. If you created several versions, select the one you want first. Your renders also stay in “My history”.

For interiors: it works the same way

The interior simulator works exactly the same way. Under “What do you want to paint?”, choose: Walls, Ceiling, Cabinets and furniture, Doors, or Trim and baseboards. The color, instructions, versions and download are identical.

What counts as one simulation?
Each click on “Generate” for a new photo or a new part uses 1 credit. The 3 fixes with the wand and your instructions are free.
The part was not found?
If the part you picked is not visible in the photo, nothing is deducted. Try another photo or another part.
Not happy with the render?
Use the wand with a precise instruction (step 6). If the problem continues, write to us.
